Transworldly Dharma protectors are a different manifestation of the enlightened Buddhas in order to serve a different function, which in this case, is to make external and internal situations conducive for the practice of Dharma. For some people, it is difficult to practice Dharma in jail or when there is financial difficulty, so these Dharma protectors or Dharmapalas address obstacles to Dharma practice. I’m sure Dharmapalas can even keep one from getting something one wants (money, relationships, etc.) if it is really an obstacle to the Dharma. Sure, some individuals may be advanced and can take obstacles onto the path as purification, but many including myself need a conducive situation before the mind can even begin to think of Dharma.
So ultimately, one needs to remember the purpose of a Dharma protector, which is to practice Dharma for the benefit of others, not to become rich or something like that.

My perspective on climbing a mountain: all paths lead to the mountain top. It is great to know about all the paths, but to actually get to the mountain top, you must traverse one path alone. Then from the top, you can see that all paths lead to one destination.

Meeting His Eminence Kyabje Zong Rinpoche on Lama Tsongkhapa day 12/20/2011 after Lama Chopa Tsog. I requested Rinpoche to guide me in this life and in all future lives until I reach complete enlightenment, and he said, “Yes, I will try.” :D It was a joyous moment for me to feel a wonderful connection with Zong Rinpoche. His presence put me at ease and I felt compassion and warmth radiating from him. May H.E. Kyabje Zong Rinpoche have a long life to benefit as many as possible with his presence and teachings.
Like the sweet perfume of white lotus
Born in the ocean of knowledge,
Nourishing honeybees, the fortunate beings;
Your fame pervades all directions.
You are proficient and powerful
In upholding the precious doctrine,
To you, O Lobsang Tenzin Wangdak,
Respectfully I pray.
